Summer Art Camp – Grades 4-6

Summer Art Camp Schedule for Grades 4-6

Tuition is $115 for half-day or $200 for full day (AM and PM of the same week).

All children must have completed the grade they are registering for. (For example, if your child has just finished 3rd grade, they will need to register for 1st-3rd grade classes.)

Week 1
June 5-9

AM     The Broformer’s Junior Circus

The Broformers are here to teach the next generation of young circus performers! This is a wonderful class if you want to learn juggling, balance, and other mesmerizing acts! Boys and girls step right up and learn how to be an honorary junior juggler!

AM    Upcycled!

Let’s go green and let our imaginations run wild!  Create artwork with a variety of recycled materials.  Free form creations and specific projects will make for a fun week of reimagining everyday objects!


PM    Everything Duct Tape

We all know duct tape can fix everything, but did you know it can be made into all kinds of useful objects and art pieces?  Create wallets, flowers, bows, and more out of this fun and versatile material through experimentation and instruction on basic techniques.

PM    Star Wars Creations - FULL

Get ready for a week of fun projects including light sabers and other crafts from a galaxy far far away. Perfect for all Jedi and Sith in training!


Week 2

Circus MAX-imus takes the Broformer’s Junior Circus to the next step in acts and circus fun!  Focus on learning how your body works and take on the more acrobatic side of the circus!

AM    STEAM:  Science Meets Art - FULL

Incorporating Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math to create projects like structures, bridges, kites, marble mazes, chalk art using the sun, Rube Goldberg constructions, and more!


PM    Watercolor My World - FULL

A week full of experimentation and fun while learning the fundamentals of watercolor techniques and mixed media production.  Work in many styles and on many surfaces to develop creatively in your art!

Wouldn’t you love to star in a movie created by you and your classmates?  Prepare yourself for a week of lights, camera, and action!  We’ll design sets, create props, and act our way through the week completing a short film for you, your family, and friends to enjoy!

Create a variety of art projects iconic to the science fiction universe of Dr. Who!


PM    On The Road

Spend the week making travel fun!  We’ll make a travel art kit, games, and a pouch for carrying it all on the road!

PM    Lions & Tigers & Bears, Oh My!

Week 4
June 26-30

AM    Paint Explosion - FULL

Learn to paint just like the old masters~  HA!  Yeah right!!!  This is all about getting messy and exploring with paint media.  Don’t wear your favorite T-shirt to this class!

AM    Drawing All Things In All Media - FULL

Draw from reality, imagination, and instruction.  Use shading, like drawing, cartooning, and color to create artwork with a variety of different media.


PM    Decorative Arts

Transform everyday objects into works of art in a variety of ways and using a variety of media.  Create retablos, fairy boxes, collages, mosaics, and other surprises!

PM    MINECRAFT-Y - FULL

Spend the week in the world of Minecraft making a variety of projects including a Crafting Chest, TNT, Diamond Sword, and Torch!

Ready, get set, write!  Take on an extensive writing project throughout the week with tips and tricks along the way and a blueprint for your very own masterpiece by the end of the week. Bring ideas!


PM    Be Your Own Hero

Don’t wait around for Superman to save the day- you’re going to make your own comic!  This is for the hero in all of us!  We’ll get into comic illustration as well as a variety of superhero themed projects.

Use artwork to tell a story!  Read a book and make the author’s characters and setting come alive in your art.  Make your own stories and illustrate them.  The possibilities are endless!

Do you love tales about knights, castles, and dragons?  We’ll create tabletop castles, jester’s hats, dragon paintings, coats of arms, dragon eggs, and colorful mosaics while learning about the fantasy and history surrounding the middle ages.

Zentangles are miniature pieces of unplanned, abstract art that are fun and relaxing to create as well as beautiful!Let’s get ZEN as we turn our tangles into 2-D and 3-D sensations!

Explore the possibilities of working with fabric, yarn, and leather.  Learn to use patterns to cut and sew, weave on a frame loom, make dream catcher’s god’s eyes, hats, and pouches!

Explore a world of monsters through a multi-media experience and hands on projects.  Take a trip around the world and back in time and discover just what has been sending shivers down our spines since time began!

PM    Furry & Feathered Friends

Create a funky feathered or furry friend with papier mache, paint a portrait of your favorite furry friend, build a tree diorama and fill it with sculpted paper birds. Decorate the paper for the birds using marbles, paints, and marbleizing techniques.

July 24-28

Examine art styles and folk art from all around the world and create your own hands on projects.  See how culture and place affect the art!

AM    Ocean Creatures - FULL

Dive in and cool down from the summer heat as we create art based on the creatures of the sea!  We’ll make mixed media sea horses, turtle pastel line art drawings, jelly fish abstracts, origami fish, felt fish wall hangings, and ocean wave color designs.


PM    Art Lab: Light & Shadow - FULL

Use astronomy as the inspiration to explore light!  Using flashlights, our bodies, blocks, and more to create shadows and silhouettes.  We’ll discuss light sources, what’s needed to make a shadow, how shadows change, and how light interacts with a variety of materials.

PM    Bits & Pieces

Think mosaics, collages, pointillism, and more!  It’s amazing the masterpieces that can be made by pulling together the bits and pieces around us!


Week 9
July 31 - August 4

AM    Show Us A Story

Together we’ll create a performance piece out of a children’s story to share with parents at the end of the week.  Creating props, looking at lighting, and rehearsals will make for a fun and busy week!

AM    Viking Expedition - FULL

*Scott Hayward*
Go on a Viking longboat expedition and learn about Norse mythology and Viking culture as you create swords, shields, axes, and more!


PM    Puppet Pandemonium

*Dee Homans*
Create a variety of puppets out of different materials and prepare a show complete with scenery and lighting by the end of the week!

PM    Art Lab: Mystery Challenge
